Doing the Work: A Space for White People Working Against Racism

October 22, 2020 @ 18:00 - 19:30 CEST

Free

Often, if we find ourselves surrounded by people similar to ourselves, we may not notice or have the chance to interrupt racist attitudes or actions. It’s not like racism isn’t happening, in micro aggressions or subtle ways; we simply don’t see it because it’s not as overt. If you’re interested in honing your lens so you can pick up and act on forms of racism that aren’t as straight forward, come to Doing the Work this coming Thursday.

You will learn the PANning tool (pay attention now), developed by anti-racism organizers in Portland Oregon, to better pay attention to what is going on around us, which questions to ask, and how to act on the answers we find.

As always, in “Doing the Work” you can meet other white people who are willing/choose to take on the hard conversations about race, educate ourselves and try to improve how we show up for the people of colour in our lives and society.

Come to our conversation to

  • Learn how racism structures our society and impacts all of us
  • Call people in, not call people out
  • Take risks, make mistakes, learn, and keep going
  • Tap into mutual interest
  • Appreciate that growing is good and hard

We will create a virtual meeting for this session. You’ll be sent a link to join the discussion after signing up.
