Sewing Basics: Meditation Eye Pillow

How are mediation pillows used? They are placed on your eyes while lying down. The light pressure on the eyeballs lowers the heart rate by eliciting what’s called the oculocardiac reflex. It stimulates the vagus nerve which is responsible for regulating the heart rate and digestion. It’s the main communicator to our rest-and-digest system, which helps us to relax more deeply.
This will be an easy project! One that you can customize to be made from a beautiful old scarf, pillow case or other soft material that needs repurposing. You can fill the pillow with lavender (a scent also used for relaxation), flaxseed or rice then infuse with an essential oil. Make yourself this gift for hours and hours of self-soothing or give to someone who could use a reminder to recharge and relax.
