We are excited to present our first screening event of the KINA·KINO series! The event is hosted at and in collaboration with HerSpace.
We will been screening the phenomenal documentary about the sub-culture of China’s young workers — WE WERE SMART (杀马特我爱你) directed by Yifan Li in 2019. The film is subtitled in English and last for 2hours and 5 minutes. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13809752/

Film synopsis: We Were SMART tells the stories of China’s Sha-ma-te subculture. Based on in-depth interviews with migrant workers born in the 1990s and 2000s, this documentary film explores why younger migrant workers began expressing themselves through punk hairstyles. The film focuses on their hometowns, educational backgrounds, destination cities, factory lives and spiritual world
